Another Travel Blog on the Internet

You are probably thinking “Another travel blog on the Internet?’

Yes, another travel blog on the Internet. I got tired of Instagram.

Instagram will always be a part of my travels as it allows me to share photos throughout my trip through Stories. That is not going away. I enjoy getting messages on my Instagram inbox asking me about my itinerary — which is, by the way, long overdue.

Every time I am about to do an overview of my travels, it didn’t feel right to dump it in Instagram. I did more than just snapping photos during my trip — I immersed myself everywhere I went. I experienced the joy of flânuering, complained in the host country’s language, listened to US History from the perspective of an Australian, connected to with the locals and fellow travelers — you can’t capture any of that on Instagram. I always found more joy in sharing my travel experiences through writing. I believe Instagram and my long-form content (this blog) can complement each other.

I got tired seeing how homogenous travel social media content has become. It’s the same type of photo: someone modeling (possibly sponsored) clothes in front of the Roman Colosseum (the Louvre, Lake Louise, Buckingham Palace, Machu Picchu, you get the point). These wonderful destinations are reduced to mere backdrops while their sponsored-branded look takes center stage. I also noticed a lack of curiosity in a lot of travel social media. We need to go beyond captions like “this place looks like a movie set.” I want to know why they want to explore the world.

That's where this blog comes in. I aim to share more than just the highlights reel of my travels on my Instagram. I believe travel is about more than just ticking off bucket list items and posing for the perfect shot. It's about the people we meet, the cultures we immerse ourselves in, and the lessons we learn along the way.

Speaking of the Roman Colosseum…
